THE POWER OF THOUGHTS, WORDS, THE SUBCONSCIOUS AND IMAGINATION

IMAGINATION #1

“…It is the imagination which allows the vision, will and intent which create the potential and acting with hope, faith, belief and trust that actualize it.

Imaging is essential for the subconscious to act.
Remain faithful to that image. Affirm, repeat, maintain, sustain

and it will actualize.

What cannot be imagined cannot be fulfilled.

 SLEEP

Words and Imagination have their greatest power before and around sleep and when in the “Field during meditation.”

In a sleepy or meditative state, the Conscious is put aside and the Subconscious predominates. Positive desires, thoughts, feelings, emotions will more easily imprint on the Subconscious and lessen conflict between the Conscious and Subconscious.

Without doubt form a picture of your question or concern and turn it over to your Subconscious around sleep. Have faith and feel the joy in having the answer. Persevere! It should bubble up later into your Conscious mind. You can turn it into a prayer.

From your image to God's ears.

During sleep the subconscious is in contact with and gleans information from the Field and the spirit world when the conscious is on hold and the ego is less dominant. It can be influenced favorably in the dream state especially if we give our guides permission to script our dreams or download information. Before going to sleep imagine the question bothering you, in detail. You may have the correct answer in the morning.

The Subconscious is permeable to hidden realms (downloads from the spirit world) during sleep and retrieves information which it recalls in dreamtime or after awakening as intuition, wisdom, de ja vu, clarity.

The dream body that travels at night is as real as the physical body. It is activated by intent and imagination.

When we are asleep we travel into the Astral realm which Buddhism believes is a good practice for death, and what to expect when we cross over the veil into the Astral…

Walk the path of awareness of both the something and the nothing, of the realm that is sensed and known and the realm of what is neither sensed nor known.
The “stuff” of time, space and matter that comprises our physical universe and that which is beyond “stuff.”

Each experience is a moment between moments, a dancing in the mystery of the void.

Our thoughts, feelings actions all have connections not just in the material world but in the spiritual realm.
The spiritual influences the material.
We invite, support, encourage or exclude, reject, discourage.
Our intent and actions control their manifestations.

One can also hold imaginary conversations in the day while in a receptive state or before sleep with someone you love especially a spirit guide. Get out of the way of your ego-self for the imagining so that what you imagine is for the greater good. Conflict causes fear. Watch your feelings. Negative emotions produce negative consequences. Hence the power of joy and gratitude. Place your hand on your heart. Breath in the white light of love, ease, compassion and  and breath out negativity as thick black smoke whenever and however many times necessary, when negative emotions overwhelm.

Sensation helps the effect of imaging on the subconscious more than dutifulness. One can use music around sleep to enhance the imagination.

The stronger the will and passion the more powerful will be the response. This is the kind of will one imposes when one is in fear of defeat and have a huge inner desire for the goal. The same kind of will when there is no choice and it is to do or die trying, as if one was in battle when the stakes are high. The spirit world will reward you for the intensity of your commitment.

Connect emotionally, mentally and spiritually with that perfection you will ultimately embody.

First see yourself in a new way – not just as someone striving and trying but as someone already having succeeded.
Not just intending or wanting but already at the desired level, free of negative energy – where light rushes in to fill an empty vessel. Secondly, take action and actualize that power you have to help others ridding yourself of the smallest remaining doubt.

Imagination can cure and cause disease. Cells have memory, DNA is plastic and can be reprogrammed especially around sleep. New cells are constantly being reformed.

“If one advances confidently in the direction of one’s dreams and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, s/he will meet with a success unimagined in the common hours.”  Thoreaux

THE POWER OF THOUGHTS, WORDS, THE SUBCONSCIOUS AND IMAGINATION

THE SUBCONSCIOUS

“No problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it. We must learn to see the world anew.” Einstein

If you wish for things to be other than they are, do not try to change the things themselves but rather the circumstances that give rise to them - looking first to one’s internal conditions for therein is where change in the external begins.

The more we embrace the Subconscious the more it will embrace us. We become what we immerse while the immersion lasts. It remembers all – the negative and the positive!

Intention is not enough, attention must be manifested for the actualizing.

The subconscious controls our lives and this very much depends not only on our innate nature but also our conditioning. The subconscious is affected by many factors including; our parenting, schooling, the influence of our peers, culture, religion and circumstances. Some of us are more positively or negatively inclined than others. Our subconscious is always operating in the background and frequently determines what we do and how we actually will behave.

Monkey Mind influences our subconscious. We must control the mind and not let the mind control us. Monkey mind with the sympathetic flight of fight response helps to keep us safe but it must not dominate.

The subconscious is subject to Narrow Mind’s domination as well as prior experiences and life times, both good and bad.

The mind must mind what the mind minds best.

This depends on what “mind” we are talking about, Narrow (Monkey) Mind or Spacious Mind? Spacious Mind holds our higher consciousness and is situated in the prefrontal lobe of the brain. Narrow Mind must subordinate to Spacious Mind for the imagination and the subconscious to be primed positively.

Narrow Mind is suspicious of imagination as being frivolous and misleading while Spacious Mind cultivates imagination to expand the realm of the possible and enter its realities.

Narrow mind is easily negatively influenced and shuts out the Field and Divine connection. Spacious Mind is in touch with all possibilities and the Field.

"Procedural memory" concerns the things we do automatically when they become engrained in both our conscious and subconscious minds. Procedural memory can be efficient but it also has its dark side, in terms of our unskillful habits.

Habit is also a function of the subconscious. Thoughts bubble up from this "basement" of our being and these influence our actions.

The subconscious and our conscious are both subject to Narrow (Monkey) or Spacious Mind thoughts. Thoughts are being recorded by the subconscious all the time. The subconscious records everything impartially without editing. It has no sense of humor.

Don’t get angry at something you cannot change. Plant good seeds in the garden of your mind. Stay positive, avoid negative responses for instance; “I never want to be sick” is not a skillful affirmation. It should be, “I always want to be healthy.” Alternatively squash a thought or speech if it contains a negative.

The Subconscious is sensitive to suggestion but this must be implanted with the will of the Conscious. Once accepted, whether true or false, it's impregnated.

While awake we create our own reality unknowingly through our subconscious. Negative statements once seated in the background of the subconscious will execute. The subconscious just accepts whether true or not. Our thoughts go back to us like the reflection from a mirror. They are self- reflective! We become our thoughts as they indoctrinate our subconscious.

Negative thoughts and words can also pollute the soul.

“We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.” The Talmud

“Do not ‘weigh,’ a soul that weighs suffers harm. The Talmud

Imaging can prime our subconscious positively or negatively.

Imaging is soul talk and brings intention into being. It is not easy to get out of the mind's way.

Coue’ taught that the relationship between conscious and the subconscious should not be in conflict or we get the opposite of what we desire. There must always be consensus between the two consciousnesses. If we believe that money is the root of all evil we will not be able to attract wealth until we change the program in our subconscious. If the subconscious is imprinted that wealth is bad or not spiritual we attract the opposite by the Law of Reverse Effort.

The Law of Reversed Effort; you get the opposite of what you pray for if the Conscious and Subconscious are not in agreement.

The Subconscious has all the know-how for desired effectiveness but is sabotaged by doubt and incompatible directives.

Cou’e also describes this dynamic in his Plank theory.

Imagination imprinted by the subconscious will overcome desire.

“When your desires and imagination are in conflict, your imagination will prevail.” E. Coue’

Suppose that we place on the ground a plank 30 feet long by 1 foot wide. It is evident that everybody will be capable of going from one end to the other of this plank without stepping over the edge. But change the conditions of the experiment, and imagine this plank placed at the height of the towers of a cathedral. Who then will be capable of advancing even a few feet along this narrow path? ...

Herein lies the wisdom of “do not look down!” because doing so would magnify one’s imagination of what could happen, making falling even more likely. There are a few who are conditioned differently, who would walk with impunity across the plank, probably because of their skill and because they were taught from a young age not to have limitations.

"Judge not that you not be judged, for what measure you judge you will be judged and for what measure you mete it will be measure to you again."

What Matthew taught has merit not only on a karmic and spiritual level but also in the way we program our subconscious. Judgmental thoughts also imprint our subconscious and will return to us and negatively impact progress. Negative thoughts can backfire and come back to haunt us from our subconscious . We need to wish people well or or at least be neutrally non-judgmental.

Moreover, we should not condemn ourselves or let others condemn us.

“Just as it's presumptuous to put ourselves above others, so is it pretentious to put ourselves below them.” Unknown

Be patient with yourself, kind to yourself and, above all, release yourself from what you are not accountable.

Do not believe in anything that can hurt or harm you. Believe in goodness and truth.

“Self-condemnation strengthens guilt which is one of the greatest obstacles on the path of realization.” Sri Swami Rama

The subconscious is more vulnerable to positive suggestions around sleep and in a meditative state when the conscious is on hold. Our subconscious has a direct effect on the Law of Attraction and whether we attract or repel.

A simple act of kindness opens a spigot for more kindness to flow into all our levels of experience which empowers others who experience it.

Just as positive thoughts create positive vibrations and the Law of Attraction, the opposite is true for negative or toxic ones. Our unskillful and toxic thoughts and actions include those arising out of our desires, compulsions, habits or addictions as well as from anger, hatred, malice, and the desire for vengeance. They create a lack of coherence within us, outside of us and beyond the veil between the worlds. If you think good of others you think good of yourself and vice versa. What you talk about or do to others you do to yourself.

“Malice sucks up the greater part of her own venom and poisons herself.” Montaigne

“Anger and hatred are like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” The Buddha

“Hatred does not cease thru hatred at any time. Hatred ceases through love. This is an unalterable law.”  The Buddha

Wish people well and good returns to you.

Don't condemn others who are rich or lucky – honest or dishonest.

Do not covet or judge. You cannot attract what you condemn.

Concerning wealth or health; a feeling or a thought of either gives more, or less of either depending on the feeling.

We need to reprogram the things we fear the most. Positive suggestion works positively and negative suggestion negatively. Never say I can't! Do not disbelieve or deny - but rather dare.

Prime Spacious Mind with noble ideas and plans. Dwell on these.

Put Narrow Mind on hold. And then maybe...

“Surely goodness and truth will follow me all the days of my life.”  Psalms

THE POWER OF THOUGHTS, WORDS, THE SUBCONSCIOUS AND IMAGINATION #2

WORDS

Words can limit. Symbols, images, poetry, ritual, song, music and art can be more powerful than words alone. They allow us to go where the mind cannot take us.

If you perceive uncertainty or a need, let the words simply acknowledge and nourish.
If they do not inform, inspire, give comfort or bring laughter, do not use them.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”  Psalms

Everything begins with the thought and the word. “In the beginning was the word…” John

“The thought manifests as the word.
The word manifests as the
deed.
The deed develops into habit and habit hardens into character.
So watch the thought and its ways with care and let it spring from
love, born out of concern for all beings.”
The Buddha

The way we think and speak will affect how we form and realize our intentions and how we color our subconscious' imaginative potential. A thought is one thing but once expressed in words, body language or anything else it becomes more powerful - harmful or beneficial to ourselves or others. When expressed positively or negatively in song (for instance offensive Heavy Metal music or  Rap) they can be more powerful.

“What we speak becomes the house we live in.” Hafiz

“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior.
Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits.
Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”

M. Gandhi

The words we use in prayer are also key. Frequently prayer is supplication rather than expressing one’s gratitude. If we are going to make requests of the Field, our guides or the great Spirit we should ensure it is either directly or indirectly for the greater good of others rather than for only our-selves (as in little self.) The request should also benefit others. If the request is granted we then need to express gratitude in some way.

Words have great power.
They acknowledge, affirm and inspire.
They strengthen, heal and comfort.
They express intention, love and gratitude.
They are messengers of laughter.

When using words, choose them well. Never use them as a weapon to harm or as an alienating defense but rather for explanation and instruction.

Kind words can be at the heart of the placebo response, harsh, unkind ones, the nocebo response which can dispel hope.

“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs

“Today I bent the truth to be kind and I have no regret, for I am more sure of what is kind than I am of what is true.”

Robert Brault

Sometimes others are ill prepared to have to hear the truth so we should consider Socrates' question ...

"Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?" Socrates

“Tell all the truth but tell it slant

Success in Circuit lies

Too bright for our infirm Delight

The Truth's superb surprise

As Lightning to the Children eased

With explanation kind

The Truth must dazzle gradually

Or every man be blind”

E. Dickenson

Especially when it comes to our loved ones … Of love be a little more careful.

“It is not that we are reticent to speak…it is rather that we choose not to unless we can improve on silence.”

 Old Proverb of Maine woodsmen

“The things you say make you rich. Saying the things you do not have to say weakens your talk. Hearing the things you do not need to hear, dulls your hearing. And the things you know before you hear them, those are you and why you are in the world.”

William Stafford

“Wise people do not speak in the presence of those who are wiser than they are. They do not interrupt their friend’s words. They do not reply in haste. They ask what is relevant, they answer to the point. They reply to questions in orderly sequence. Of what they have not heard or understood, they say they have not heard. They admit to the truth.” Arichat Sefatayim

I am always struck by TV anchors and others who have the gift of filling a time slot with words that are disguised to repeat something over and over again but somehow sound different.

“You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts; and when you can no longer dwell in the solitude of your heart you live in your lips; and sound is a diversion and a pastime. And in much of the talking, thinking is half murdered. For thought is a bird of space that in a cage of words may indeed unfold its wings but cannot fly.
K. Gibran

God’s breath is heard in quietness and  felt in stillness. Beware the noises and clamor of ego which drown out the Divine whisper.

“Guard your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from speaking deceit.” Psalms

"Do not judge a person until you have walked a mile in his moccasins." Native American Proverb

Our words can also create harm when we gossip or more especially slander others. Buddhist teaching tell us not to say anything unless we know it to be completely true. Often we do not know the whole story behind unskillful behavior. This teaching goes one step further.

Do not spread a bad image of anyone or any group, even if true, or to the person himself. Do not share information that can cause harm. Do not embarrass even in jest. Do not pretend that innuendo or body language is not speech. Do not gossip or listen to gossip.”

Chofetz Chain

The Talmud teaches that when we slander we "kill" three people; the one who says it, the one who listens and the subject of the slander.

Hence its best not to listen or walk away from those who engage in harmful gossip.

THE POWER OF THOUGHTS, WORDS, THE SUBCONSCIOUS AND IMAGINATION #1

THOUGHTS

The mind controls the heart.

The mind must mind what the mind minds best.

Use the mind, do not let the mind use you.

It is always best that we think from Spacious (Big) mind or our higher consciousness rather than from Narrow (Monkey) Mind, unless we are in survival mode.

“I think therefore I am.” Descartes

The only way to control Monkey Mind is with some form of meditation. One cannot "think" one's way out of it. Narrow Mind resides in our primitive brains, Spacious Mind in out Prefrontal lobes. Advanced practitioners default to the Prefrontal lobe on F.M.R.I. studies - most of us, however, to our primitive brains - especially under stress.

The thoughts we think are what dominate our life.
We must conjure with care, both the care as in carefully and care as in caringly…

“The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.”

Marcus Antonius

“The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts.”

Marcus Aurelius

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” Henry Ford

Monkey mind usually dominates unless we do spiritual practice. It can also generate our unskillful, primitive emotions and thoughts (anger, hate, malice, our desires, compulsions, habits and addictions.) We need to wish others well and good things will return to us. (The Law of Attraction.)

Our thoughts create our words and our intentions as well as program our subconscious for positive or negative outcomes. We usually act out what resides in our subconscious minds, rather than what we intend with our conscious minds.

“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it but that it is too low and we reach it.” Michelangelo

Beware of the subversiveness of doubt and the reticence of rhetoric.

Optimists have different words they use, that reflect what they think and feel, as do pessimists. The pessimists are more likely to be correct because of their cynicism but the optimists get more done. The pessimist may also be creating his/her reality by negating the Law of Attraction.

Seligman the father of Positive Psychology found that optimistic people were happier, healthier, more productive and enjoyed life more than those that were pessimistic. Pessimistic folks were also more likely to be depressed and anxious. He also showed that optimism could be taught with various exercises.

“The optimist, by his superior wisdom and insight, is making his own heaven and in the degree he makes his own heaven, is he helping to make one for all the world beside. The pessimist, by virtue of his limitations, is making his own hell and in the degree that he makes his own hell, is he helping to make one for all mankind.” Ralph Waldo Trine

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty.”  Winston Churchill

However, the shadow side of the optimist is having totally unrealistic expectations about one’s abilities.

Praise that is designed to help create a positive, optimistic attitude when not associated with worth can lead to a tricky downhill path.

The self-esteem movement started in California in the 60's was a failure. Rather than improving performance in children it enabled them and encouraged narcissism. Many performed worse, rather than better and there was a subsequent increased rate of negative emotions, depression and even suicide.

Self-compassion should not mean self-enabling or being enabled by parents or others. Self-worth is not the same as self-esteem which relates to the ego, persona and “self-cherishing” and tends towards self-enabling and even narcissism. An unconditional positive regard for our true Self reduces anxiety and depression and increases happiness, optimism, positive emotions, and self-worth. We are all worthy being made in the image of the Creator.

“Tis nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.” Shakespeare

Invincible means one cannot be beaten, and invulnerable, that one cannot be harmed. The optimist may know that s/he is not invincible but they do not submit to defeat when the going gets tough. They pick themselves up and try again. The pessimists believe they are anything but invincible and sometimes use their vulnerability as an excuse to bow out so they do not have to fail.

Outward Bound used outdoor challenges and categorized their student into two groups i.e. those that were performance oriented versus those who were learning oriented. The performance-oriented participants liked to engage in the activities where they could do well and look good and avoided those where they were less adept and more likely to fail. The learning-oriented students did not care if they failed – they tried and tried again until they succeeded. At the end of the Outward Bound adventure the learning oriented had accomplished more.

“… I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” Michael Jordan
