We are all connected, some of all in each.
Are all one though not the same. The Ancestors
In the beginning all the Beings were able to communicate with one another. For the Talking Beings this meant lowering their vibration in order to communicate. We have lost this ability although some hunter gatherers and other unique persons still retain it to some extent. If approached in the right way it is possible that we could get back to being a little like we used to be. We will see that we just need to slow to their pace and learn to touch, listen, dance and feel with each one.
Still beings (stones and planets,) sprouting beings (grasses, trees and plants,) wild beings (animals, birds, fishes and insects) and talking beings (humans) once all communicated with one another. Now talking beings have long forgotten and have fallen into disregard and even disbelief of the oneness of all creation.
If you want to learn the language of rocks and trees you must first slow to their pace which is different from animals and wild flowers.
Although they are soundless they are not silent, so listen long and deeply in order to hear what hearing ears do not.
All are spirit manifestations and exist in one another. The Ancestors
In order to better do so, we should start with relating to the basic elements (those before the periodic table was described.) Air, Water, Fire and Earth.
We are all made of stardust and the same elements and are actualized by the breath of the Creator. We all end up the same way, dust to dust, ashes to ashes. This realization will make us more humble and will facilitate our communication with all the Beings. We depend on one another and they especially are beholden to us to survive and be happy.
Smudging can also call our spirit guides to assist us if we ask to receive. Our guides can protect us and help us dream "instructional" dreams. Smudging is likened by some to a “spiritual shower” and possibly also an air purifier. It removes emotional and spiritual negativity that accumulates in and around us. Experiments have also shown that burning medicinal herbs can clear aerial bacterial populations. (Journal of Ethno-pharmacology. Medicinal smoke reduces airborne bacteria. 2007.)
It is important to chant before making an incense offering, for the power of song to draw forth the soul of the plant. The Ancestors
In indigenous cultures smudging especially when associated with chanting is believed to unlock the 'spirits' of various plant allies to restore balance and harmony. Ayahuasca curanderos or ayahuasceros (shamans) continually chant sacred Icaros during their ceremonies which call forth the spirit of this vision vine of the jungle which is hugely instrumental in transporting the participants into their spirit world visions. These chants are given to the shaman during initiation, something western practitioners using the plant, who have not been fully initiated lack. The Ancestors endorse that;
“Every single wisdom in the world has a particular chant, a particular melody and when you chant that specific melody it will draw forth the particular wisdom to which it is attached.” Nachmon of Breslav
The Ancestors
The use of fire is essential for life and spirit.
The Native American sweat lodge includes a number of portals to spirit. Red or white hot rocks (Still Beings) taken out of the fire outside the lodge induce steam, heat, sweat and cleansing when sprinkled with water. Sacred, aromatic plants (Growing Beings) on the rocks give incense. Chants and prayers call the ancestors and other spirit helpers including the spirits of the plants. The sweat lodge is incredibly powerful spirit medicine incorporating many shamanic principles all in one container for a "calling," cleansing and healing ritual.
